Grub N Gab March 26, 2019 Recap

Thank you, everyone, for a great meeting!  Our Toastmaster, Dan shares a few ways to help us maintain and/or increase our Memories.  It was found beneficial to eat more fruits and veggies, practice repetition, mnemonic skills, link things with an association, aerobic exercise, and plentiful of sleep.  It is also helpful to continue learning new materials and avoid using brain training apps.

We welcomed Kim McPhaul, our newest GNG member.  We also had two returning guests (Kevin and Sabastian).  We had no speakers this week; we had so much fun in Table Topics which led by Kevin MacNaughton.  There was a schedule conflict in the reserved conference room, resulted in a shorter meeting.  We wished we had more time!

My best memories are the ones we make together and the stories you share.  Hope to see you all next week!

Recap Grub N Gab Toastmasters Jan 08, 2019

Hi Everyone,

We miss you at the meeting this week!  Although the group was small, we managed to kick-off our first 2019 meeting with an awesome theme ‘New Year Resolutions’.  We set personal and professional goals in thriving forward, anticipating uncertainty and preparing ourselves in solving the problems.  We certainly stepped out of our comfort zone testing our spontaneity.  Sapna delivered her second speech on ‘Hobbies’ outlining her leisure activity in woodwork, painting and her passion for volunteering, while Shefali provided valuable feedback to further enhance Sapna’s speech.  Meanwhile, Tien led a fun table topic segment having Alex, Shefali, Sapna and Nijith (guest) sharing their new year resolutions, ways to make them stick and continue to prosper throughout the year.  We learned that by sharing our new year resolutions with a friend or family member has its advantage, ensuring our goals will be fulfilled.

One of my goals in Toastmasters this year is setting a higher bar, thoroughly committed, making every meeting counts.  What’s your goal?  Have you thought about your new year resolutions?  It is still not too late!

LACE (Leadership & Communication Experience) meeting will take place this Saturday, January 12, 2019.  It is a great way to learn, network and/or train as club officers.  LACE is for EVERYONE!  All club members are welcome!  Here to Register.

Grub N Gab Toastmasters – June 26 Meeting Recap

Thank you, everyone, for participating in an inspiring meeting “Journey of Life”.   Our Toastmaster, Tien reminded us that we get to decide the direction in life we want to live, thus not to be afraid to tackle uncertainty or fear.  Things might seem tough initially, but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and if you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t walk run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but by all means, keep moving.

Daniel delivered an innovative planning level 2 speech on Your Style of Mentoring.  He shared stories of his parents as his coaches and mentors.  His friends as his social mentors, especially his friend Nate, how he has thrived, overcame hurdles at a young age to self-funded himself to become an Ivy League graduate and successful professional.  An inspiring tale that all of us can learn and emulate.  Thank you, Daniel!

Alex led a brain-storming table topic segment, having Shirin, Sapna, Julie, Nancy, Donavan & Taj (Guests), and Daniel sharing their goals, plans, outcomes, and things that they are thankful for.  Daniel earned the Blue Award Ribbon on his thoughts about living life like there’s no tomorrow!

We also took the opportunity to celebrate and thanks Nancy for all her hard work and dedication leading our Club.  Nancy, we congratulate you and wish you the very best as you will begin your journey, your steps moving to Campbell, California!

In addition, Congratulations to all Grub N Gabbers, through your effort and commitment, we thrive and made it to President Distinguished Club!

Grub N Gab Toastmasters – June 19 Meeting Recap

We had an exciting “Summer Vacations” meeting led by Toastmaster, Shefali Parekh.  Although the group was small, we managed to have a mighty fun time.   Our speaker, Julie Murphy, delivered a specialty speech on the “Fleet of Kia Souls”.  Her passion and enthusiasm for this product surely got the audiences attention.  A few facts about the Kia Soul: 1) Nice & Compact car 2) 31 miles per gallon 3) Electric car option 4) >100 cubic feet cargo space 5) 60/40 folding seats 6) Blind spot detection 7) And auto on/off headlight.  It’s the go anywhere car.  Great job on selling the product, Julie!

Dan led a stupendous Table Topics segment, having Heather, Tom (Guest, Heather’s son), Alex, Tien, Shefali, and Julie sharing their thoughts on travel destinations, method preferences, traveling tactics for kids, and dream destinations.  Alex’s humorous travel story and living in the OC earned him the Blue Award Ribbon!

Grub N Gab Toastmasters: May 15 Meeting Recap

This week, we had two guests Shaun Veran and Sebastian Lopez join us for an entertaining “Summer Vacations” meeting led by our Toastmaster, Shirin Lavaie.  She provided us with facts and tips regarding popular vacation destinations.  Did you know that Brazil offers their working citizens a stunning 41 days of holiday pay per year?  Conversely, United States is the only developed country in the world without a single legally required paid vacation day.  A few frequently visited vacation places in America are Boston, Bar Harbor Maine, Sonoma wine country, Seaside Oregon, Seattle, and Teton National Park.

RoseMary’s informative, humorous presentation on “Get To The Point Already” described the four communication styles.  They can be direct, initiating, supportive and/or analytical.  Which style do you normally use?

Meanwhile, Saurabh took us for a ride with his family to Yellow Stone National Park.  So glad we all arrived home safely! Congratulations Saurabh on winning the Blue Award Ribbon!

Our first-timer Evaluator, Daniel, and Table Topic Master, Alex, did a great job providing feedback, which  promoted an exciting impromptu brainstorming discussion.

Time is precious!  What is your plan for this summer vacation?
