Grub N Gab Toastmasters Aug. 11 Meeting Recap

Thank you everyone for a great meeting on Sept. 11.  We had a small but mighty group.

Our theme was Fall and Fall Back!  Saurabh shared that when he lived in Chicago, the streets would be empty by 4 p.m. in the Winter due to the change in time.

During our Table Topics we discussed how the time change affects us.  Many of us feel groggy and struggle with the time change.  Although, most of us enjoy the cooler weather due to the changing of leaves and seasonal items such as Pumpkin spice.

August 21, 2018 Recap

We had a great “Back to School” themed meeting on Tuesday and got a chance to hear about some of the good and bad things about back to school time.

Julie gave a speech on club officer roles and provided some quick training.  She reminded us that club dues are due again by the end of September.

Dan gave a rather interesting speech on anesthesia, in spite of a deliberately disruptive audience.  All in all, he handled it pretty well (though it was generally agreed we should have been a bit meaner).  The takeaway for me was to avoid general anesthesia if at all possible!

Shefali was our table topics master, and her questions spurred Shirin to tell us about the year she was bald in second grade and Heather to share some of her back to school difficulties from a parent’s perspective.

The meeting ended with Shirin agreeing to choose her path in the new Pathways program and do her Pathways Icebreaker speech!

All in all, we had a wonderful time.

Grub N Gab Toastmasters August 14 Meeting Recap

Our Toastmaster of the Day Alex chose “Psychology” as a thought provoking theme and introduced three great speakers this week. Our first speaker Rosemary was inspired by Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk and showed us how great leaders inspire action through powerful communication. Then Julie practiced giving a special occasion speech by pretending to accept a “Pokemon Trainer of the Year” award. Finally, Sapna got us really questioning our doodles in her presentation about the “Psychology of Doodles.” We had so much fun listening to all the great speeches that we had to skip the table topics session this week.

Grub N Gab Toastmasters Aug. 7 Meeting Recap

Thank you everyone for a great meeting this week.  We had two guests.  Aron Darling, our Area Director as well as David Hosmer, who discussed Founder’s District “Success Stories.”

Daniel delivered two speeches from the Innovating Planning patch, discussing the bridge building competition he took part in.   He provided an overview of the project, discussed challenges such a limited funds and resources, provided an overview of the team and tools they undertook to motivate the team as well as showcased the final product.

During our Table Topics session, we shared success stories.  AnnaLisa shared that the first time she participated in Table Topics she cried and now she routinely speaks in front of groups to provide training.  Aron shared that he visits at least two new clubs when he travels.  One of the most interesting clubs was prisoners in Minnesota.  They are planning to use their voice to make a difference in their communities.  If you want your story to be featured in an upcoming Founder’s District newsletter, contact Dave Hosmer at (949) 302-9305.
